Fizeau Interferometers

Fizeau interferometer uses optical path differences between optical paths L1 (reflection from reference face) and L2 (reflection from measurement face) in the figure.

Key features

Most widespread interferometer; enables measurement of flat and spherical surfaces using a simple configuration.

Its reference and measurement optical paths are the same, making this a compact, vibration-resistant system.

Allows measurement of the transmitted wave fronts of lenses by placing a transmission sphere (T.S.) between the reference and measurement faces.
